Fall Lantern

I figured that with fall just a few hours away, it was high time to put some fall decor out.

First I had to decide on what to do. Lantern came to mind. I had been outside for a bit, then moved inside and was lacking personality, to say the least. Those two candles in there are battery powered candles that have a timer. Love, love, love those. When set to timer mode, and you turn them on, they stay on for 5 hours. Shut themselves off and then come on again 19 hours later. All on 3A batteries. Now tell me that isn't just the coolest!!!  Then I gathered the things you see here. In the bottom left is a piece of cedar block. The silver glittery acorns came from our local grocery store. The larger, rust colored acorns are from Pottery Barn. The little pumpkins.. Hobby Lobby?  Note that the lantern has two hollowed circles in which to place the candles. We are going to pretend they are not there.

I felt that there was color lacking, so I whacked off some fall leaves from a garland. Not to worry, it came from the Dollar Tree, so it's perfect to demolish. I tried this out...

...but settled for this. If you want the husks on dried corn to manipulate easily, just place them in some water for about 5 minutes. Remove, drip dry a bit and then shape the husk to your liking.

Love the combination of the rustic cornhusk pumpkin with the glam of the flashy Pottery Barn acorn.

This was the end result. I would NEVER put anything flammable near an open flame, but battery powered candles are the best when it comes to decorating. If for only this one purpose!!

Hope you are ready to welcome fall into your life.. it's just around the corner. My favorite season. Bar none.
Have a blessed weekend filled with happiness and joy.

Hi Marlis,

Love how you decorated the lantern. Smart to use the battery powered candles. They do look real and saves the mess, not to mention safer! Great photos and inspiration, now I'll go looking my my lanterns.
Happy Weekend!

That's the spirit, sister! :-) You and I both are slowly but surely being pulled into the cadence of fall. It's tough, but we're gettin' there! :-) Your lantern looks terrific! I agree...LEDs are the way to go!!! I've had to many close calls to tempt fate again! Have you seen the cool new remote controlled LEDs? I am definitely going to invest in some of those bad boys!!!!! Have a good weekend!

Marlis,
Love all the texture in your lantern! Those acorns are gorgeous! I agree that battery candles are the best, but 'tis the season for campfires, burning candles, lucious scents, indeed!
Fondly,
Pat
