Happy Father's Day

Son, husband, daddy

Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope.  ~Bill Cosby

A father carries pictures where his money used to be.  ~Author Unknown

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.  But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.  ~Author unknown, commonly attributed to Mark Twain but no evidence has yet been found for this (Thanks, Garson O'Toole!)

Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.  ~Elizabeth Stone

Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat.  Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound.  Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together.  Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again.  ~Jimmy Piersal, on how to diaper a baby, 1968

He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.  ~Clarence Budington Kelland

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard.  Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass."  "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply.  "We're raising boys."  ~Harmon Killebrew

I especially love the quote by Harmon Killebrew. When we first move from North to South, we rented the home he lived in when he played for the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Hi Marlis. First, let me thank you for your kind visits. It makes my heart sing to hear from you. Right now I'm playing catchup in the blog world as traveling does interfere, especially when Internet connections are hard to come by. I so enjoy your posts and always take a look to see what is going on out your way, and always there is a new idea! Xox

This is SO CUTE!!! My Dad used to have his own baseball team and we lived in the same town as Jimmy Piersall. Jimmy wanted to be on my Dads team SO BAD and Dad kept turning him down. He said he was too small and young at the time...HEHE! Little did he know...
Have a wonderful weekend,
Hugs to you,
Donna

Marlis,

This is a marvelous post! I loved all the quotes. Jimmy Piersal's (I remember him!!!) quote on how to diaper a baby is just too funny. Great shot in the hammock. Wonderful tribute to fathers everywhere.

Love the collection of quotes on Fatherhood, Marlis. I love reading quotes. I gathered a bunch on motorcyclists for my hubby and gave them to him yesterday. He loves his Harley ALMOST as much as us!!!!
