White with a bit of color Tablescapes revisted

June 22, 2011
It's just really hot around here these days.
I mean really hot.
I got in the car after work yesterday and the temp showed 113.
By the time I got to the bank, both the car and the bank showed 105.

ps..the links under the photos are links to the tablescapes themselves.

So I've been just wiped out.
But I'm not complaining.
We have no humidity, normally.
However, it's been like a sweat lodge.
Humidity at greater than 50% some days.

Red and White Holiday 2011

The patio hasn't been completely finished yet.
Our worker has been swamped and so we get pushed to the bottom of the list.
I know I raised him better than that :)!! LOL

Rustic Chic 2011
Needless to say,
I've been a slug.
Lazy.
Not a creative ounce in my bones.
Keeping the plants watered takes all my energy.
Slug.

So while I'm longing for cooler temps,
And no new table in sight,
I thought I'd share some previous
tablescape escapades.

And I'm praying you won't be bored.
I'm just sorry I've neglected this blog for so long.
So bad of me huh?
Slug.

But, I do have a brand new table planned for next week!
Well I hope.
Hoping cause I need some flowers.
Hoping.

I'm hoping that the weekend will cooperate.
Cooler temps please, please.
Flowers to be had.

And although I haven't set a table,
I have completed my set of Coalport Athlone blue dishes and Waterford Clarendon wine hocks,
via eBay of course.

And I was the lucky and most happy winner
of a set of gorgeous Noritake Piedmont accent plates.
Cannot wait to set that table!
Thank you Noritake!!!

And thanks to my friend Cherry Kay from the gorgeous Entertaining Women blog,
I was able to snag 10 Mottahedeh Musee des Arts pots de creme.
Yep, one more table with these...

So please come back again,
soon.
I know the dog days of summer
will soon be behind us.
Are you longing for Fall, too?

Thank you so much for sticking with me.
Thank you for inspiring me.
Come visit Tablescape Thursdays and Cuisine Kathleen with me!!

They are all so lovely. I'm glad we're not collecting the same things off of Ebay.

I just got back from Galveston. They should rename the city Humidityville!!!!! My husband, my dogs and I am so very happy to be back in Chicago. In fact, I needed a few things from the grocery, so I walked. It was so nice to be able to take a walk and not be drenched when I returned. I'll send lots of thoughts for cooler weather your way:)

Marlis, this review of all your gorgeous tables was delightful. It is HOT here this week too! I'm feeling a bit like a slug myself. I don't seem to be motivated to do much of anything. Glad you found the beautiful pots de creme. In fact, it sounds like you have several lovely new tabletop things to share. I'll eager await their debut!
Let all hope the weekend brings the cooler temps the weatherman predicts. By cooler he is saying highs in the 90s. I'll take that!

No wonder you are not feeling creative! You have used up so much creativity setting all of these incredible tables! I cannot decide which one I like the best, but that shot of the wisteria table with the sun shining on it - swoon!! Thanks for sharing the tables and I hope it cools off soon!

Marlis,
I understand the slug by heat. It has started to cool a little at night - I so look forward to fall. So much cooler and restful to spend time reading creative blogs posts by others. Thank you for the retrospective, there were many I had missed originally.
Hugs, Dawna

Marlis~ I always enjoy revisiting your tables! Our humidity in the summer is always is the 80s or higher, so to say it's pore-cleansing here is an understatement! Fall is a Southerner's reward for surviving summer! Looking forward to your table next week :)

All are beautiful, Marlis, but the one with the wisteria is my favorite.
Have a wonderful week...

All your tables are stunning, and you have been spending $$$ I see! :)
Makes me feel better about our shopping trip yesterday. Really didn't break the bank at all!
Not wishing for Fall, we wait so long for summer, I savor every minute of it. Love being at the beach and smelling the salt air!

Marlis,
I felt the same way you do, dear friend, the last Summer I was employed!!! By the time I arrived home from work in the Summer heat, fixed dinner and watered the plants. . .I was spent!!!
Thank youfor posting all of your lovely tablescapes...simply gorgeous!!! My favorite for this go 'round is 'A Calm Welcome' 'cause I have Autumn On My Mind!!!
The final days of Summer are rapidly coming to a close. The beginning of another school Year is upon us. . .and soon it will be bond fires, hay rides and cool fresh breezes of Autumns Arrival!!!
Fondly,
Pat

It was great to review all of your tables. Hard to choose a favorite, but I really like wisteria one. I know what you mean about the heat; we have it here in MS as well!

I hear ya on the heat! It is NOT fun to get in the car after work and see temps over 110! I am staying indoors or in the pool -- nothing in between! It will be a while until we can set an outdoor table again, for sure. I enjoyed seeing your reprise of tables and learning of your new acquisitions. Can't wait to see how you "play" with them!

Hi Marlis,

It's so nice to receive a visit from you; I haven't been doing tablescapes lately, so I miss hearing from my tablescaping buddies. :) My friend, I had forgotten what AMAZING tablescapes you create -- Wow!! I can't wait to have more time to look at every one of these. Right now, just looking at the teaser photos, my favorites are April in Lubbock 2011 and Wisteria 2011. Gorgeous!! But I also see several others that look just as lovely. You have such a wonderful collection of dishes, crystal, and linens. I've just got to get back to tablescaping soon.

Thanks for your sweet comments on my mom's table; it really makes my mom's day! I hope it cools off for you folks in Texas soon. I understand what you mean about the heat, and we ALWAYS have lots of humidity here in North Carolina. Ugghh.

Hugs,

Denise at Forest Manor

Oh Marlis,
I so enjoyed reviewing your tables. They are all stunning, each one with it's own theme. I went back and took another look at your wisteria table. The colors really caught my eye. Wow, gorgeous! I too noticed that a lot of your things are from Germany. Are they from your family, or have you purchased them? They are beautiful!
My family is from Germany, in fact my oldest son studied there for a semester and my youngest is returning Sunday from Bonn. We visited a year ago and fell in love with the country. The vineyards, markets, architecture...it was just breathtaking.
I live in Houston, Texas and yes, the heat is almost unbearable. We stay in most of the day and venture out as things cool down a bit to the upper 90's (haha).
Yes, I'm looking forward to cooler weather with the fall season. I was in a few stores yesterday and they already have Christmas trees displayed! I guess it's closer than I thought!
Thanks again for the inspiration. Your tables are divine!

Wow! It's fun seeing a parade of pretty tables! It's been a creatively lazy summer for me too. Though we really have not had much of the punishing heat. I haven't done many tablescapes myself this season. I certainly wouldn't be thinking of much else at 105 degrees!

Marlis, you are so far above most of us you could probably "slug" rest for a year or so. I love everything you do and you have done some awesome tables. I love the Mother's Day table, maybe because of the sentiment. I am absolutely gaga over your white chargers. I have always love those. Thanks for sharing, Have a cool...er weekend, Ginger
