Advent Calendar 2012 - Picket fence centerpiece

My son's handiwork - again. Somewhere, and I'm going to say sorry sorry sorry, not sure where; I saw a table set to the nines. And in the center was a lovely oak box filled with greenery and candles. I was excited. I knew I woulds never find an oak box in time for the holidays. So I did the next best thing. Found some weathered pine fence pickets.

This box is a wee bit higher than the original, however, without ripping the pine pickets, this is still doable. You can still carry on a great conversation. And it's big enough that it can stand alone and not need more "stuff" to fill the table.

He: How long do you want this? Me: 3 feet. He: How wide? Me: 2 fence pickets. He: ends on the outside or in? Me: In. And so it is. He added a small 1x1 in each corner so that the pickets are nailed to something a bit more sturdy than themselves. Love it.. It's perfect. In my eyes.

Filled it with floral bricks. Placed hurricanes from the dollar store on top of the bricks. Used floral candle holders that you can insert into the bricks to hold the tapers. Filled the surrounding area with different types of faux greenery. Later on, I'll add some real stuff. In the hurricanes, I poured rock salt. It's sturdy, inexpensive and makes the candle bases look as if they are sitting in snow.

Some of the floral pics had the faux berries. Love how they add the punch of color. I added the pinecones.

I have a collection of pinecones. Some I even remember from where they came. Some I have no clue. Still love them!!

Goes to show, even the simplest forms can make a great centerpiece. I've set a table with this. I hope you'll come back to see it! Happy Tuesday..
