A Hamburger Lunch Tablescape

 

Oh my!

 "We're on our way. What's for lunch?"

Umm Umm Hamburgers!

So out came the quilt i made for our youngest.

Denim and flannel. Old shirts, scraps, etc. Love how comforting it is.

Some camping plates. Metal, Divided. Heavy!

Red Cambridge flatware.

Red bubble glasses.

Red check napkins secured in red knot napkin rings.

No time to run to the store.. pull the burlap sunflowers off the buffet.

Plop onto the table.

Add some votives. 

Who says you can't have candles at lunch???

And this is what you have.

Fun, casual and easy.

Quick napkin story. These red check napkins came all the way from Switzerland.

On a Bernina dealer's trip (I used to work for Bernina, USA. LOVED, Loved loved that job.),

we took a train ride on the Bernina Express.

The Bernina Express will take you to Piz Bernina, or the Bernina mountain. Anyway.

They had lunch for us. Served wrapped up in this very sturdy, darling lapkins.

Of course, the hoarder collector that I am, I took every one whose owner did not 

want theirs. What a wonderful reminder of a really good time!

 I really have some cute pictures, but they are on the hard drive that needs to go in for some special, individual attention. Much easier to think of it that way!

 The One Kings Lane pitcher adds just the right amount of rustic charm to the table.

 It belongs to these Hobby Lobby sunflowers. They are made of burlap and I just love them!!

 

   This quilt is a simple square of flannel with  windowpanes of denim fabric. 

The quilting is all repetitive stars. 

Not all quilts have to be masterpieces. ;-)

 

A bit closer view of the leaf. It's quite stiff. And there is a wire for giving it shape.

 The weather was awesome on Sunday!

We've been out of the triple digits for a few days and everybody's tempers

have certainly departed the boiling point!!

ps... This is not Regan, this is Billy. He rules the yard. Allows you to pet him until he realizes you are petting him. Wants in, but not if you are there. Regan wants him to come in and play, but if you talk to Billy, Regan does not like it. Anyway, he and Scaredy Cat are well taken care of. They keep the back yard safe. :-)

Ode to 2116 tablescape

Okay, friends.. what is 2116?

It's not a bird.

It's not a plane.

It is however, my most favorite thread color ever. Yes, ever!

A rayon thread that has captured my heart for over two decades.

If I were to show you all the garments/quilts/home-dec items that I have made using this decorative thread, it would not only amaze you, but me also!

The screen capture isn't too true to color, as it is listed as vari-taupes and that is what this table is all about.

Last summer a surprise package arrived. Inside were these fabulous plates that we have used numerous times, well they are my favorite color AND they look like my next favorite----LACE!!

Many of the colors on this table perfectly blend with the Sulky thread.

Still loving our new table from last year. Even with the weatherproofing, it has taken on an aged patina.

Two quick tutorials coming up.. one the napkin ring and the other, what I did to the lace doily to make it blend with the plates. It was way, way too white!

You can find these types of doilies in lots of places, grocery stores, craft stores and yes, even the Dollar Tree.

I used a makeup sponge and some Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen color and smudged the edges of the doily. It's also a nice touch to stamp a monogram in the center!

Now to the napkin rings. I used some burlap ribbon, hemp twine, buttons and glue dots.

These silver napkin rings have really been workhorses in my arsenal. This time, I wrapped the burlap ribbon around the napkin ring. I overlapped the ends just a bit. Notice that is fits into the opening between the two outer ribs of the napkin ring. Then I tied the hemp twine through the button holes. Used a small glue dot on the back of the button and placed the button over the ribbon where it overlaps. Be sure to catch the ribbon on both sides of the overlap. And no adhesive gets stuck to the napkin ring at all!

Although the brick work continues on the patio, enough was completed to enjoy a spring evening outside.

The green Dollar Tree goblets came out to play with the Mikasa French Countryside wine goblets.

Gotta love caladiums. I can see this same table using Coleus or mums in the fall!

The small cloche filled with reindeer grass, some acorns and a birdhouse makes an interesting centerpiece.

Even the candles are in a hurricane whose color comes straight way from the spool of thread!

I laid a white quilt on the bench to soften the perch and lighten the area a bit.

I think I'll be looking for one a bit more cream colored!

Birds, Bees, Flowers and Trees Tablescape

Birds, Bees, Flowers and Trees is the monthly challenge from Cuisine Kathleen. I don't have dishes with birds on them (note to self: fix that), I sent the hibiscus flowered plates on their merry way to a new home up north, and anything with trees I had was either Christmas or winter. So I figured it was time to cheer us up and help us forget about our last freeze this past Thursday and Friday mornings! Fast forward 24 hours... and here we are a balmy 70. (Another promised freeze coming up Wednesday! I am so tired of hauling pots in and out.) But back to the table....

To attract bees, something sweet needs to be about. Lemons sous verre. Under glass. A beautiful wooden bowl, more of those split peas, some reindeer moss and lemons. All sous verre. 

And the bees appeared! Lemon colored bowls with a beehive design and a huge bee! Bees are good, they give us honey and feed mostly on pollen and nectar from plants. Bees range in size from 5/64" to 1.5". 

Sweet bees are most common in the Northern Hemisphere. One landed right here on the napkin rings that flew in from One Kings Lane last year. It fell for the yellow checked napkins from Pier One.

A lone geranium with it's single bloom, confiscated from the kitchen window sill, adds a wonderful pop of color to the table. The sweet bird couldn't resist joining this party. Direct from Ashtree Cottage, Susan and Bentley's charming home. So charming!!

 

No ladders or chairs for me. Hold the camera up high, point down, check the vari-angle view finder and shoot away. Yep, those are still pecans on the ground. I did pick them all up and they were all in the dumpster by 5pm! I know that is sad, but with 3 large pecan trees, we have more than I can possibly eat, give away or beg people to take. 

Once again, those nest chargers came out to play. I almost succumbed to the PB ones that are now on sale for less than 50% off, but resisted (oooh that sounds so noble!). I also pulled out the larger cabbage chargers to use as plates.

A yellow handled spoon completes the setting, that I found at Ross's, from Cambridge. But there is something new on the table.....

 

When I was picking up a couple of dozen margarita glasses from Dollar Tree, these glasses with lemons just plopped their chunky bodies into my basket. It was a horrible clatter wheeling those glasses down the aisles in a less than perfect shopping buggy. But I persevered!!
