Bountiful Summer Tablescape

I was wanting to wait and show y'all this table in the midst of summer. But that would have been mean. After all, then you couldn't scurry on over to your nearest Hobby Lobby, take advantage of the sale on these fun metal wall plaques, re-purposed as placemats, the sweet tags that go with them and the darling tray! All available at your local Hobby Lobby - 50% off!

The wall plaques (yes there are hooks on the back but they don't interfere with setting a table) come in three variations, cabbage - choux, cherry tomatoes - les tomates cerises, and corn - mais. It makes it even better since the words are in French - dontcha think?

Because I wanted the pretty metal pieces to show all their glory - I used my clear glass plates, of which I've probably got a gazillion (well a bit of an exaggeration). Also used a rugged looking woven napkin and placed all on the fabric du jour - burlap! Don't the tags, they already were on the twine hangers, make cool napkin rings?

Our kitchen flatware seemed to be the perfect match for the casualness of the table.

Then I had a blast creating the centerpiece. It's all edible, well except the candle and hurricane. Fresh corn, cauliflower, squash, tomatoes, mushrooms, lemons, limes, artichoke, and bell peppers in all colors.

Makes me hungry just lookin' at them.

This hurricane has travelled from far and wide to be part of this table. I brought it back to the states, in a backpack, in the overhead of a crowded airplane, all the way from St. Gallen, Switzerland.  Love the cracked glass. The cracked glass throws reflections everywhere. So magical.

The pitcher and the rooster and hen salt and peppers are from the Chanticleer collection by Fitz and Floyd.

Favorite goblets, French hand blown, carried home gingerly from Santa Fe, NM.

A darling tray and veggie spreader to hold the jalapeno butter (recipe on Friday ;-) ) for the fresh sweet corn.

Flatware - Gorham

Marlis, you are so comical. I enjoy reading your commentary as much as looking at the pics. I always get a good laugh!! Your table is such a beautiful summer table. LOVE the veggie centerpiece. My hubby carried 8 glass goblets home on the plane from Peurto Vallarta, Mexico. I was at a mall in our town a couple weeks later and there were the exact same ones!!!! No kidding!

Just terrific. I would never have thought to use a wall plaque for a placemat. The clear glass is a great choice, too, because it lets the plaque be the focal point.

The vegetable centerpiece is the perfect choice, too. As always, you're so creative!

Hopefully, it was cool enough to enjoy this lovely outdoor table. I love the produce centerpiece and will likely copy that idea. Just got back from a long road trip....West Texas is dry, but so is Houston!
