Inspired by Blue Tablescape and giveaway

Inspired by all the blue from last week's post - HERE - I decided to jump, head first, into the blue pool!

This was my inspiration. Hmm, don't have white chairs. Hmm.. blue flowers? Oh my. But I love the ethereal quality of this table.

I brought out my white chair covers. They started out as heirloom tea towels onto which I embroidered monograms using cotton thread. White. Tone on tone.

It certainly helped to disguise the brown chairs sufficiently to give the feeling. I hope. I got all the towels at MarthaPullen.com. They were embroidered with 60wt. cotton thread on a Bernina artista.
Originally created for Designs in Embroidery Magazine, the instructions can be downloaded HERE, or HERE.

And then came the first dilemma. Blue flatware or silver. I chose the silver. It's lighter in feel, sort of like the inspiration photo.

And then I pulled out my grandmother's dishes. They are Form 1382 Blaublüten, Arzberg (Blue Flowers). More info about Arzberg china HERE. This pattern came out in 1931.

See those napkins? Only purchase for this table.. well, other than the flowers. I tried some blue ones, too dark, white ones, very light.. So I headed out into consumer mecca and stopped at SteinMart. And there were 12 blue and white napkins in the perfect shade. I didn't have to second guess, I knew it. And when I got them home, they were.

See how all the blue colors are the same? It was meant to be. The large goblet is from the Dollah Tree. I've had these since forever, it seems and haven't used them. I had to wash them and remove the tags!

I even had those flower bricks... the square containers with the flowers. I have a giveaway going on another post.. click HERE to be whisked away to leave a comment. Leave one comment if you want to be in the drawing and another if you are a follower. Last day to enter is March 5th!

I pulled out a fabulous white tablecloth that I use quite frequently. Just be sure to toss it in the washer with some Oxy-Clean after dinner, to keep it nice and white. For lack of blue chargers, and I looked, I used the silver trays I've collected to serve as charger plates. Keeps the table light and bright.

Between the two flower bricks, I placed a silver spooner that belonged to Mr. CJ's grandmother. I tried other things, but nothing really worked. I think I'll collect some blue and white porcelain balls to place in a silver bowl. Any thoughts?

So what do you think? did I come close? I am still pining for my mother's blue and white dishes. Blue Onion I know that. And there is another set of my grandmother's, also blue.. They should come home to rest!

So pretty, love the dappled sunlight on the table. I have several flower "bricks" and they are magic for making flower arrangements!I have nothing blue, but might have to start collecting, the blue and white palette is so bright and refreshing!

So lovely and light, Marlis! You are blessed to have such gorgeous china from your grandmother -- she had wonderful taste! The new napkins ARE perfect with this serene, elegant table.

Marlis,
This blue and white tablescape is exquisite, dear friend!!!
I can't stop enjoying the view long enough to comment...good thing blogger doesn't record how many minutes you are on someone's site! Ha!!!
Both sets of flatware are gorgeous, but I agree the silver is the crowning jewel...especially with the silver trays as chargers!!! I am swooning over your silver spooner!!!
Amazing how something as simple as napkins can really pull a tablescape all together, isn't it??? Your napkin choice @ SteinMart sealed this tablescape, indeed!!! I adore how they mimic the china!!!
Dollar Tree goblets??? I must give them another try! I've been looking for stemware at Antique Malls...expensive...yikes!!!
The heirloom tea towels are such a unique feature and truly give your entire dining room the ethereal atmosphere you were desiring!!!
Now, dear one...I MUST go and see this regal tablescape again, and again, and again!!! You far exceeded the expectations of the inspirational source!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Marlis,
This table is so beautiful, I can imagine sitting here for hours enjoying a lovely Sunday afternoon. The china is so pretty, how lucky they are to be in your care.

How funny that you used the blue goblets from Dollar Tree, I went there for the first time last week and those goblets were one of my purchases.

I will definitely be downloading the instructions for the chair covers, your embroidery always inspires me.

Hugs, Dawna

How utterly ethereal, Marlis! Heavenly blue combined with all your gorgeous antiques just melts my ♥.

I love your new napkins...Perfect match! BRAVO!

I have an antique silver spooner also but mine sure isn't as pretty as yours, darn it! It needs to be replated...only the spoons polish up nicely.

I just adore seeing the sunlight streaming in your dining room windows across the table. Beautiful setting!

Hugs,
Rett

p.s. Thank you for those links to your creative use of MP's towels. Cool idea!

When I see rooms like the one in the source photo, I just sigh. I would love to have white chairs and lots of white wood throughout my dining room! It's just such a pure, clean slate from which to build anything you want! You did a good job of using your inspiration from the source photo to create a signature table of your own! Really great idea to use the chair covers since painting all of your chairs was probably not a prudent option. :-) I know what you mean about the Dollar Tree stemware...I bought a lot of it and didn't bother to remove tags until I needed it all late last summer for my stepdaughter's birthday dinner. No point in doing all that washing of them before having to put them into service....you just have to re-wash them anyway!!! I do the same thing with napkins and such. I just don't bother to remove the tags until it becomes absolutely necessary! The napkins you bought at Stein Mart are great!!! I haven't been to that store in probably a year+. I love it so much!!! You'll be able to get a lot of great looks with those napkins in the years to come! Nice job on your floral arrangements, too! That brick really makes it easy, I'll bet!!! I hope you've thawed out completely there. It has been snowing on and off all day here still. I think the worst is over, though. Hallelujah!!!

I just have a moment...after all, I need to get myself to Steinmart! Great napkins! They add just the right punch to your gorgeous blue and white tablescape. I have the same DT goblets. It really is such a lovely shade of blue. The clear colors with the strong presence of white reminds me of a beautiful Swedish design. Job well done! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

Marlis - what a pretty, pretty table. Your china is so lovely and I always love silver flatware (an obsession!). What a creative idea to us silver trays as chargers. I think that I recognized the edge of one that I own! I cannot believe that you did the monogramming on the chair covers - incredible! Thank you for showing this to us!

Marlis, I'm back to leave a comment. I visited earlier in the afternoon, but Blogger wasn't cooperating.
Yes, you nailed it! Love the inspiration photo, but your dining room and table are equally as stunning. Clever use of the tea towels. And the new napkins are perfect. I'm swooning over all the pretty details from the wonderful spooner to the vintage china atop the various silver tray chargers. I need to start picking up some trays to use as chargers.
Stellar!

Marlis, for my taste, your table surpassed the inspiration! First of all, I love the dappled sunlight in these photos! This table has a softer, more romantic look. The embroidered table covers are gorgeous! And the flower bricks add a nice touch! Now there again, your rendition beats the inspiration! I have those same DT goblets in blue and green. I don't think DT realizes what an absolute gem of a product they have in them! I'll be using my green ones for St. Patrick's Day. Everything is truly enchanting!
