Strawberries Romanoff

Strawberries Romanoff - sweet, heady, cool. Perfect for a hot day!

And here is the story to go along with this little recipe.  Mr. CJ is a not quite finicky eater.  I mean, if the food contains certain items, he won't even try it. His mom obviously didn't make him at least try different foods now did she? (Don't get me wrong she is the best MIL you could ever wish for - EVAH!!) But i digress. He won't eat tomatoes, sour cream, sweets, and squash. So I learned, people like that don't need to know everything - do they?? Otherwise they would never find out they actually like something!

So, I made the Romanoff sauce. He knew it took two bowls to make. Little did he know that there was OMG - sour cream in one of them!!

Guess what he said after he had it the second night also - Man, this is good, I don't think I can eat plain strawberries and whipped cream anymore. Am I gonna tell him? What do you think? Should I?

Served in a crystal bowl on gleaming silver with a dainty napkin. What a pretty sight!

Strawberries Romanoff

8 oz. whipping cream
8 oz. sour cream
4 Tablespoons brown sugar
3 Tablespoons white sugar
2 Tablespoons Brandy (can substitute vanilla)
1 quart fresh strawberries
White sugar to sprinkle over berries
Wash and hull strawberries. Cut into bite-sized pieces. Sprinkle with white sugar.
Set aside to let the juice come from the berries.

In a cold mixing bowl, whip the whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add 3 tablespoons white sugar and whip to blend. Add package of Whip-It and whip until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
In a bowl, cream sour cream, brown sugar and brandy.

Gently fold the sour cream mixture into the whipped cream. The Whip-It ensures that the whipped cream will not wither and melt with the addition of the sour cream. It will also keep this mixture from separating and will stay that way for hours until you are ready to use it.

When serving, sprinkle some brown sugar on top! Enjoy!!

  11. Marlis, You are a culinary sly fox! No wonder your husband liked this so much. It sounds fabulous. Strawberries are in season in my area, and I have them with whipped cream, but I'll try adding sour cream... and a touch of brandy!

  13. Hello Marlis!

Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving your kind comments. It is a pleasure to meet you!

Your recipe for Strawberries Romanoff sounds delicious...and no, I don't think you should "spill the beans..." hehehe! I have a couple of picky eaters myself and have discovered that if I am "too honest" about ingredients, the chickens won't even touch it!

BTW...I enjoyed reading your profile information. I find it fascinating that you taught both French and German. I loved my high school French classes. My Spanish college classes...not so much!

    Midwest Blessings,
    Valerie
