hallway where the tables are staged or things are placed in preparation for an event. |
Oh this is not a pretty post at all. So, so sorry. However, the Tablescaper is having a party... we are to share just where we keep all our dishes and stuff. Okay, this is not the time for Hoarders to be looking in! Oh no, not at all. And besides all that, it's not very pretty. But here it is.... mess and all!
This cabinet is in the small hallway that enters our bedroom. I could use it for clothes since I think that is its intended purpose. However, we all know that clothes are really just secondary! LOL.
Napkins and napkin rings live on the left side of the upper portion of the cabinet. And the cute holders for fries and chips (Pier One) live on the top shelf. Also 4 boxes of pictures that have yet to be scrapbooked and my favorite purse made for me by my dearest friend Charlotte (whose birthday I haven't really forgotten!)
Right upper portion houses the bone china, Mikasa goblets, more napkin rings, mirrored placemats, and some hurricanes. The lower drawers house placemats in two drawers and the others actually have clothes in them. To see the drawers.. click HERE.
There is a lower cabinet to the right of the napkins that is home for more placemats (bulky ones), chargers, candle holders, platters, trays and other odds and ends. Oops see two sets of flatware in there in the plastic shoe box containers. The disarray is making me nuts!!!
The first wardrobe on the right houses out of season clothes and other items from which I can't bear to part. the second wardrobe on the right houses tablecloths, hanging and labeled. You can see more in this post HERE.
The four stacked drawers have candles and place cards and bigger napkin rings too large for the plastic containers in the top drawer. Then all Christmas items are in the second drawer: placemats, runners, napkins, etc. The third drawer is full of table toppers, vintage, mom made, grandmother made, purchased, etc. And the bottom drawer are VHS tapes that we have to either transfer or get rid of... Then we mosey on down to the other end of the hallway. Oh before we do.. the topmost shelves are filled with outdoor party supplies, Christmas and holiday china.
Cabinet at the very end of the hallway has a stack of plates, white, wedgewood, and some various that aren't whole sets. I see candles, and the tall area for pitchers, decanters, etc. The shelf above has a complete set of china. With odds and ends in between. Oh and the stacked pedestals. Silver candlesticks sit there so out of place. ha ha. The next shelf up has my Waechtersbach Christmas China (the Spode is next to the ceiling) and decorative salad plates. The top most shelf also has Waechtersbach china and the glasses that I usually use with it.
The pitchers have been removed from this side only because I'm gathering things for my Bible study group luncheon fellowship next week.
The adjacent cabinet houses the wonderful Mikasa Daylight, wooden dishes, odds and ends, some Bordallo Pinheiro (the rest is in the top most shelves in the kitchen), the Wedgewood china and anything seafood related. Oh yeah, the cowboy china is in here too.
And then we come to the kitchen.. Yes there is some china in there too. I added this antique kitchen cabinet that I love dearly to one part of the kitchen. Mr. CJ wants to put a corner bench dining set in here in its stead. but .... where would I put these dishes??
Talavera, my grandmother's Blaue Bluete, the Schumann Antique Rose, the rooster china, and the red Burgenland transferware all life here amicably with each other. The drawers hold flatware, and some additional flatware is in the containers on the second shelf.
Hope you enjoyed the embarrasing trip through the stash of dishes. I still know where everything is, so life is good and since I really use it all, it's got to be okay, right?

Marlis, your tables are always beautiful. It's fun to see where you store things. That long hall with the built-in cabinets is fabulous. We live in an older home and storage is at a premium. ~ Sarah

ReplyDeleteMy "stuff" is so disorganized that it is not ready for prime time yet. Maybe later. Thanks for sharing. Ginger
What a wonderful array of dish storage! Love all your organization.
ReplyDeleteFabulous cabinetry for storage! Everything is so great. I love that you have a place for staging as you are preparing. That is a great idea. I was trying to make sure we used the pretty dishes tonight for the family dinner and my middle son broke two! Oh well! And they matched the centerpiece and everything. Of course I ate on an unmatched plate! We love our plates, but the kids are more important than things!
ReplyDeleteMarlis, I was still "grieving" over our return from Savannah when you did this post last summer. Today I am languishing in icky old Pittsburg, KS again with lots of time on my hands, so I am cleaning out my emails. Given my recent "confession", I remembered that I had saved your post. Good thing I did!!! Ha, ha, ha!!! Everyone on here...I'm going to check out their post The Tablescaper's party, too!!! I need to be REALLY convinced that I am not an anomaly! Of course, now that I have gotten to take a really close look at yours, I KNOW I am not alone! :-) Look at all this stuff!!!!!!!!!! You and I both need to be thankful that we are organized because we sure aren't shy about buying stuff! :-) OK...headed over to look up this date on The Tablescaper's blog. Hugs, fellow hoarder! ;-)
