Christmas Dinner with Friends 2015

Christmas Dinner with Friends 2015

We love to open our home to acquaintances, friends and family throughout
the year. However, one of the times I enjoy the most is our yearly
dinner with friends. I try to choose a different theme each year so that
the dinner is not only a feast for the tummy, but also a feast for the eyes.
I do try to plan several years in advance so that should I choose to make any
purchases,they aren't full price.

This year's theme was the Night before Christmas. Luck was on my side last year
and I snagged the 'Twas the Night... tablecloth and dessert/salad dishes on sale from
Williams Sonoma.
Last Year's set of plates

This year's set. I sure wish we had a Williams Sonoma near us. I would have purchased
the Nutcracker plates!

I selected a red Thomson dinner plate to pair with the WS 'Twas... dishes. These were placed on
a Jay Imports gold charger. Gold flatware completed the setting.

I found the fun napkins at Home Goods and embroidered them with a big B.
I love to add the personal touch to our table. The color green in the embroidery
was selected from a very dominant green in the tablecloth.
For the life of me, I do not remember from where I purchased this embroidery font.

.
The Fitz and Floyd reindeer (found at an estate sale!) fit perfectly on the table
as they repeatedthe colors of the tablecloth and kept the conversation
flowing withtheir cheerful faces. Several years past, I had seen the idea to
glue ornaments to a mirror as individual vases. I will admit it was
a bit tricky until I came across some circular foam with a center hole
from a CD stack.
Another theme that paired well with the 'Twas idea,
was an abundance of ornamental balls. I had them
strung on the chandelier, in bowls, and outside in planters.
With a venture of that undertaking, I made several trips
to our local Dollar Tree. You had to be there early to get
the ones with designs on them! Let's say I started in November.

I used a tureen to hold the flower arrangement, which consisted of
eucalyptus, red roses, green buttons and white mums. An extravagance
that made the table feel sumptuous!

Our Ajka Arabella wine hocks paired up with the Mikasa Parklane iced teas. Whereas
the clear crystal might have faded into the background, the red pop of the Ajka crystal
added a bit of color on yet another level.

On overhead shot. I just stand on my tippy toes and point down with the camera.
My canon has a vari-angle lens so I can see the shot before I take it.

Each guest went home with an embroidered stocking.
I designed and embroidered the free standing fabric
holly leaves that had wire inserted in the embroidery process.
Not nearly as scary as it sounds. The names were
embroidered on a ribbon that was knotted and then hand
tacked to the stocking cuff. Filling them was a blast!

In these last photos, you might notice that I decided that the napkins
needed a napkin ring. I love to add table jewelry when it seems to fit.

Thanks for stopping by, I know it's been a while, praying that the year
ahead will afford me more time to be more active on line. A family, still working
full-time, and being a BSF International bible study leader eats up so much of my time.
I would love to be able to spend some time with y'all.

Crowing Rooster Tablescape and a winner announced!

Last week, I did blue and white. This week, black and white. Wonder if this will be a trend? I'll run out of dishes before long if it is!! Anyway, I hadn't brought out these French-feeling dishes in a while.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIAIJNqQRJlF4-uI2Y0tl-JHoI4tfs57waM_vs26J-KFAnISzQ4apM6zoiGSrUXMk8-crDZhct9sDDg0WLtx185ctScoECAU0aPkEP1usz0fc37m6ilespoy-S9DGebElhQucLMhO3ZnEW/s1600/IMG_7099.jpg
The last time I used them, I paired them with red. Same placemats, different glassware and flatware.
See this post HERE.

I promise little talk and lots of pictures. And I'll announce the winner of the two flower bricks. I wish I could have given everyone a flower brick, maybe next time?

I set this up for Sunday brunch. Fixed a Eggs Benedict Casserole for breakfast. Served with fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice. Something good for after early church services.

Brought out the good Dollar Tree crystal - yet again. The plates are heavy and so a heavier weight glass fits the bill perfectly and rounds out the setting.

The simple green ivy plant makes a perfect centerpiece. Not overdone and since green is really a neutral, doesn't fight with the colors on the table.

Cast:
Placemats - can't remember
Dishes - store Hulla B'lu Lubbock, but no mark on dishes
Flatware - Horchow
Napkins - can't remember
Napkin rings - Stein Mart
Salt and Peppers - Fitz and Floyd and unknown

White pitcher - One Kings Lane

And the winner is:
I used Random.org to pick a winner. I placed all comments into a designated email folder, I had a few who sent me emails because they get the post via email, and wanted to be in the drawing. Luckily the time stamp kept all messages in order, ones from the blog post intertwined correctly with the ones via email. Woohoo when technology works.
Oh yeah, you really want to know who won...
Who was #24?

Sarah has left a new comment on your post "Snow, Regan and a Flower Brick Giveaway":

A quiet, fall, Sunday evening dinner tablescape

I really do love fall. I love the colors, the smells, the crispness in the air, the need for a fire or a coverlet. It just all appeals to my soul.

I've really been very good this year about not adding to the dish collection. Really, I have. But when I saw these at Williams Sonoma, well they jumped into my cart! Literally, as I was drooling on the screen (we don't have a fabulous store front out here in West Texas), next thing I knew I had selected, ordered and paid for these plates. With electronicst getting smarter and smarter and knowing just what you like, it's not my fault. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Farmer's Market. Williams Sonoma.

Part two.. and so did a dozen napkins. Autumn Madras. William Sonoma. Bad, bad computer.

Most Sunday's find us, our youngest son, and my  95 yr old dad sitting around this table or one outside, weather permitting, enjoying a meal, chatting, having a good time.

And since it's the time when pumpkins just jump into baskets, too,  this year I placed a Fairytale pumpkin that found it's way into our shopping cart, smack dab in the middle of the table surrounded by a fabulous faux garland that I've wrapped in a circle.

Not too shabby for faux, huh? I thought so, too. I've had it for eons. Sometimes it's hanging on the kitchen door as a wreath and sometimes it's on the table.

Rustic just speaks to my heart. It says warm, casual and "gemutlichkeit".

There's something about Mary and there is just something about madras! I don't know why it takes me back to my teenage years. Was madras big in the 60's over here?

The little white pumpkins are real. Yeppers. I have quite a stash of them sitting around. One here, one there, a couple over there.

Boy, that candle sure looks crooked. Hmm. Sorry. I still love just a bit of Spanish moss in the cup of a candle. Especially on a rustic table.

The Fitz and Floyd pitcher has made another appearance. It's just like a Timex, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. I use it spring summer and fall. Did you notice that I layered another runner right over the top of the burlap runner? It certainly adds a bit more texture and color to the table.

Mikasa French Countryside glasses play well with the hand blown glass from France found in Santa Fe. It's amazing if you buy what you like, how much it will all really go together.
