June QK Club project - club date has changed!! June 12th now.

It's the rick-rack season! QuicKutz came out with a new 6" die set consisting of zigzag outlines, circles and zigzag edged circles. I fell in love with this set when I spotted it hanging on the shelf in the store Love it. Can you spell L O V E??
So I paired with with rick-rack and voila! a pretty cool combo if I say so myself. We are going to lean to make some NO SEW rick-rack flowers. Why do I emphasize the no-sew??? Because traditionally these are made with a needle and thread. But I figured out how to make them without those two little tools.. wooo hooo.

Supplies:
Designer Paper as shown (My Mind's Eye)
1 yd mini green rick-rack
1 yd blue rick-rack
1 yd pink rick-rack

Just a few more hearts...for this year anyway

I scraplifted this page. When I saw it on-line, I knew it was the perfect venue to audition the new fringe scissors that I purchased. Now at least I can say I've used them once. Honestly, I think I'll be using these a lot. They are so much easier than cutting each fringe by itself as they cut 5 fringes at a time!
Since this is not my own design, I have provided a link at the bottom of the post so that you will have access to the same instructions I had. Have fun and enjoy!
My latest love is the Frosted Lace Stickles by Ranger. I just love the subtlety that it gives to objects on which it's been placed.
The font is Gazebo by QuicKutz.
I stamped the swirls before I placed the butterflies.
And then I went over the stamped swirls with more Frosted Lace. This is the multi-part butterfly die from QuicKutz.
I also stamped the mini hearts at top using a variety of inks (Distress, Chalk and VersaColor). Added a bit of Frosted Lace for more shimmer and shine.
I also dotted the large heart for the bigger butterfly with Frosted Lace Stickles.
Cut the opening of the large heart with an X-acto knife. Then placed lots of punched heart "tops" behind the opening. When I was pleased with the arrangement, and as a finishing touch, I sewed around the opening.
There is also a zigzag stitch at the bottom of the page over 3 layers of fringe and a strip of coordinating cardstock.
I hope you have fun creating your own page. For the original and the tutorial click here!

Creative Paper Concepts - 2 hour album - really

This is the first installment of 3.. I want to show you that it's possible to create a project in a couple of hours with very few embellishments and just a few supplies. The trick to to pick a color and stick with it. Repetition will unify the project and limited supplies will spawn spurts of creativity that you didn't know existed. I started with a set of stamps, some black ink, black cardstock, a corner punch, black journaling pen, adhesive, rubons, white journaling pen, and some ribbon. The album is one that is found at your local scrapbook store or a craft store. All paper and held together with ribbon. The interior pages are usually white. With this type of album, it's imperative not to add too much or the finished project will be too thick to close and the pages will start to separate from the staples. The front is indicative of the inside and sets the mood.
This album commemorates a very special time in my life. BSF or Bible Study Fellowship is a non-denominational bible study. It's a very indepth study of the bible without the potlucks and social events. However my leader the first year shared her ranch house with us after the class. That was the year that each one of us in the class was going through a trying time so we bonded with one another as only strangers in pain can. I say it saved my life that year. Kept me grounded and focused. So here's to BSF, my fearless discussion leader and all the ladies who came together in Christ.
Inside front cover has stamps, a QuicKutz title, and a rubon that sets the tone.
Page one - our group shot. names inside a stamp and a QuicKutz flourish die cut. Notice the corner punch.. all pictures are unified with the black mat and the corner punch.
Page two: a black jounaling strip with white writing. Invest in a good white journaling pen! One flower stamp.
Page three is a companion to the page 2. Same elements on this page. See, I told you it was easy.

One stamp, journaling inside and the picture grace page four.
Page five has one stamp with journaling inside and one picture. Really easy and very effective isn't it?
Stay tuned next Wednesday for more ideas to complete your own 2 hour album!

Metal art...or just more stuff

Not sure what the answer is. Except that playing with metal sheets is so much fun. I can see this translating well into the home dec area of my life.

I took a class last Friday night from a very lovely and talented lady named Christy Gilbreath, who is a sales rep for both Bo Bunny and Ten Seconds Studios. So guess what was in the class kit? Bo Bunny paper and Ten Seconds Studios metals... It was really fun and a great learning experience. I've changed up the class pages a bit and then actually accomplished that which I set out to accomplish... I made a metal covered cross. It's not perfect, but it's done and it's ok.

So let me explain a bit about the metal. You should venture onto Ten Seconds Studio (click here) to see all their beautiful samples and see their product. So as not overwhelm you with details, I'll just give a brief snynopsis of what I did. First off, the brown polka dot flower, the green "mats" and the brown scroll strip are all metal art. The metal comes coated with a color on one side. This can be your front side should you want a predominate color. So you would cut your piece to size and then lay the cut metal on top of an embossing plate. You can use your QuicKutz, Cuttlebug, and Fiskars (did I leave any out?) embossing dies or folders for this too. Then you use a special pointed tool and rub all around the raised elements of that which you are using to emboss. Once the piece is embossed, then you use a soft sanding block to sand off the color on the raised areas. Of course the metal can be "smushed" so it's not meant for heavy wear and tear. If you are using your metal art for an item that will be handled a lot, then Christy recommends you fill the back side with some really runny spackling and let that set. You want to be sure to only keep the spacking in the design so that any overflow doesn't show on the back side of your art piece. For your scrapbooking and card making pieces, use it as is. It's going to be just beautiful.

For the cross, the technique is basically the same, except I had to trace the cross onto the metal first. I purchased my wooden cross at one of the larger craft stores for next to nothing. I decided to use the silver side of the metal sheet so that I could then wash the entire piece with black paint and wipe off the excess to give it that Santa Fe look.

Place the metal wrong side up on a foam mat. Place your cross on top and lightly trace around the cross using a stylus with a rounded end. You don't want anything too sharp so as not to puncture the metal. Then I embossed what was going to be the right side of the metal with very many different embossing mats. I then measured how much metal should be left around the embossed design because I wanted to wrap the metal to the back of the cross. Measure twice, cut once... I used E600 to attach the metal to the cross. Once it was securely adhered, I wiped the piece with some black craft ink on a paper towel. Basically, that's it. But as always, there is a bit of fiddling to make sure everything got covered. I've got some more ideas in mind and will share them with you as I get them finished.

Sorry for the delay in posting, but we had life happening this week. Granddaughter #1 tried out for the mutton busting in the rodeo and placed, then we went to the rodeo, had work stuff, hung curtains, bought groceries and before I new it, another week had spun by.

In the pink

If you create a layout for one grand daughter, well you've got to create one for the other grand daughter as well. Our youngest grandchild is two and loves pink. Or maybe she loves pink because her older sister says she does? Whatever the case may be, she gets very excited when she sees something for her that is pink. She just giggles and exclaims "peeeeenk"! Since this is displayed with her older sister's layout, on small easels next to one another, I tried to keep some of the elements the same. Same big flower different color, buttons, pearls, wire spirals, and lace flowers. Click here to see the post with the blue page.

This year, instead of creating a layout and stuffing it in a page protector in an album, I have purchased a few easels on which to display the pages before they find their permanent home in an album. How much fun it is to see the pages. And the girls just love to come over to see which picture is on display.

The large pink flower is a QuicKutz die cut from white cardstock.
Stamp the flower with VersaMark Watermark stamp pad using your favorite background stamp. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder. Shake of excess powder and heat emboss. Using a sponge dauber, dab two colors of Ranger's Distress Inks (Fired Brick and Tattered Rose) sparingly on the flower. Spritz with a fine mist of water. This will blend the colors. Buff the ink off of the embossing. I then over-sprayed with a mixture of Walnut Ink Crystals, white perfect pearls and water. Once again, lightly remove the ink from the embossed areas. Adhere a paper flower with a button center to the center of the pink flower. Wrap gold wire around a Ranger mister, clipping as desired. Glue a pearl to one end and stick the other end between the two flowers. Hope you have fun creating a layout of your own...
