I set the table for New Year's Eve HERE.
Who really has time to reinvent the wheel in less than 12 hours?
Not me for sure!
I used some of the same elements and toned it all down for a buffet dining New Year's Day.
I wanted to use my white dinner plates. My husband wanted to use the clear plates. I think he likes the new chargers? Your thoughts...
My favorite burlap runner, gold candle rings (candle removed for photo), clear plates, gold flatware, Mikasa crystal, crystal candleholders and the same centerpiece from the evening before.
See, quite simple.
Perfect for the jeans and boots crowd.
Chandelier still all gussied up.
Spider mums are amazingly effective for impact in an arrangement.
Nope, didn't really have time to wash and press the napkins. I have quite a few of these.
Estate sale, price was right. Bought them all.
Monogrammed them all.
New gold chargers found at Tuesday Morning.
International gold flatware.
World Market Anchor Hocking dinner plates.
Buy them by the dozen.
Since the table is extended from the evening before,
I added a pillar candle on each end. Set in a
simple gold candle ring, from I think the Dol-lah Store.
Not a bright gold, but a wonderful muted shade. Works itself into all types of settings.
Our new buffet arrives this week -- ooh can't wait.. but till then, the
table is draped with a vintage boutis, awaiting the desserts!
Do you light candles during the day time?
I read somewhere that that is such a big no-no. Is it?
My new chalkboard in the kitchen - LOVE it!
Today it listed the menu.
Helps me to remember to take it all out of the fridge!
Surely, you've never forgotten a dish in the refrig?

Pretty! I love the napkins and have been hinting to my MIL to make some for me. She has all those great machines... Love the Chalkboard too! XO Cindy
Gorgeous, Marlis! Your table looks clean and fresh, like the new year. I really love those new chargers and need to check "my" Tuesday Morning! I agree about spider mums -- lots of bang for the buck!
Oooh, I love it all!! Your table is gorgeous! I only wish and dream that my Tuesday Morning had any of the TM finds y'all get there. They never do :(
I LOVE your chalkboard!! Did you make it yourself or purchase it?
Spider mums are one of my favorite flowers to decorate with also.
Happy New Year!!

Per Emily Post, 1922,: "Candles have no place on a lunch or breakfast table; and are used only where a dining-room is unfortunately without daylight.". Of course she also says that we should use a bare table for luncheons...and on and on. I have mainly heard that if we have a candle on the table, we need to light it during the meal. ...maybe more of a modern take on the topic of candles at the table. Like I always say, "Know the rules, and then break them if you wish.". I love that your husband even has an opinion on which plates to use. Gorgeous table as always! Cherry Kay
Ooooohhhh...LOVE the chalkboard in the kitchen!!! What a great touch! Convenient, too, I'll bet. Gorgeous table. Relaxed elegance is how I would describe it. Quite elegant with the fabulous centerpiece, the gold color, the beautiful candlelight, the crystal and napkins...but relaxed in that one would feel at home. It's wonderful, Marlis!!!
Oh Marlis, you always set such a wonderful table! Even your buffet is beautiful!!!!
I also like the chalkboard...really cute!
I think it's great that your hubby gives you his ideas on what he likes concerning the table...and that you actually listen to him!!!! How sweet.
Happy New Year, dearie.

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!
The table is beautiful and the buffet is so pretty!
I resolve to put together a chalkboard in 2012. Yours is wonderful, Marlis.
Love this post ... white candles and white flowers ... couldn't be pettier! Thanks for sharing.
Marlis, I don't blame your husband. Those chargers are stunning. I think I should have gotten myself to Tues AM before Christmas. Your centerpiece is lovely, and I love the candlelit buffet (yes, I use candles in the day time. I think it is more acceptable now than it used to be - at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. You inquired about my blue transferware "Auld langsyne" bowl. I got that years ago at a junk store. I think it may be a reproduction of an older bowl. On the bottom, it says "Olde historical Pottery, Britsh Anchor, Strafordshire, England". I bring it out for confetti every New Year's. Thanks for your interest. laurie
I so love your tablescape. The burlap is awesome as well as your dishes. Happy New Year!

Very pretty, Marlis! I love the heavy wood "trough"--wonderful texture and contrast. I've wondered about candles being lit during the day too, so I've just done some research. According to allexperts.com's Amanda Gamble, candles are NOT to be used/lit in the daytime; only from dusk to dawn, or when it's very dark in a room (sort of like headlights, she says...used only when needed). So that's the sad news...what will baby and bridal showers be like with no candles on the table?! Boo-hoo :( Will we adhere to that etiquette rule? I love candles on any table, any time of day. Maybe we were better off not knowing :). ~Zuni
Very pretty table and buffet. You must have had a very nice time. Pat

Marlis your table is beautiful! Is that a big jingle bell in the centerpiece? There is that awesome antique "candle holder" on the buffet table. I will always remember that! Blessings!
Marlis, Another awesome tablescape! Love the chalkboard menu, and the different heights using tall tapers, leading the eye down the table. Thanks for sharing. ~CJ

I know I'm a little late for the party. We were away for a few days but I just wanted to peak at a few things and glad I picked your post. How nice that your husband "likes" chargers! I love your table. Did you make your burlap runner?
