Sunday is for Seafood Tablescape


Welcome to Sunday dinner. Yep, we are having seafood. A bit of salmon, grilled with a touch of Tangelo - yummy.

I pulled out my plates with the seashell edges, fish flatware, the trusty ferns that haven't croaked are still thriving, some candles and put this together while the grill masters were watching the salmon with an eagle eye!

I like using a charger just because it gives a nice finish to the plates. When using a tablecloth, they are almost a necessity to preserving its pristine condition. Usually when I use chargers, I can reuse a tablecloth with at most a minimal spot cleaning.

I should have taken a picture with the candles lit. But by that time, I was deep into dessert and assemblying the crepes filled with marscapone/Tuaca cream and strawberries, overwhich was drizzled a few dashes of Nutella. Trust me on this one.. YUM!!



I had picked up the seashells at CTS on one of my trips to Dallas. I'm not quite as lucky as the Tablescaper and the rest of the CTS queens, I miss those fabulous bargains they come across. But I do love these!


I have had these dishes for a decade at least. Love the shell edges.

This is my one big score! I was in Savers a long while back. And there hanging on the peg hooks were 3 packages of these bamboo looking rings. All clamped together. $1.99 for them all. I have 21 of those rings. The package said Curtain Ring. I said Napkin Ring! They sure look great with the Tommy Bahama napkins, don't they?


Both the hurricane and the wine glasses have a luscious blue tint and a delightful wrapped stem. Found at our local grocery store - sorry no markings.


The pale green salads were a great accent that picked up the green in the napkins and lived well with the ferns that were on the table. The fish flatware was a gift from my mother decades ago, from WMF.

I do love how the rattan and bamboo pieces blend together so favorably. If an element is repeated more than once, it gives purpose to using it.

    Gorgeous as always! I adore those seashell plates and the fish knives! But my question is, where do you store all of this? Thats what keeps me from hoarding :) And thanks, Marlis, for your lovely comment on Steve's giveaway. When I looked through the pictures he posted and realized that I staged the sewing machine shot with the invisible zipper incorrectly, I actually thought "I bet Marlis noticed that!" Lol.     As I studied your beautiful table, I kept thinking....National Day of Prayer is tomorrow....and we are to be fishermen of men. This one was meant to be. The shell plates are fantastic! Great idea on the bamboo rings. I'm with you ...each time that I go to Dallas, I try to make time to hit CST and Home Goods. There are a couple/3 new Home Goods Stores that are beautiful stores.     It never ceases to amaze me how incompetent the US Postal Service must be for losing my invitation to these dinners!!! The nerve of them! :-)

    Using those curtain rings as napkin rings is Thinking Outside the Box to the Max good!!! So smart! Don't hit me if I remember that trick and use it in the future. It's just too good to not repeat!

    I love that stemware so much. It can go with so many things and look different every single time. It looks particularly great paired up with the chargers and the hurricane bases. VERY nice! That fish flatware is just the BEST, too!!! Your Mom had your future pegged when she gave you those! Of course, the Tommy Bahama napkins rock, and the seashell plates are perfecto!

    I'm glad your ferns are still amongst the living. Mine would have been pushin' up daisies already, I'm sure!

    Well, I'm off to write a strongly-worded letter to the Postmaster General about my missing invitation. I'm sure you will do the same. ;-)

    As always, the table is perfect. I am dying for some really good seafood. My husband was in Galveston recently and he and some friends went to a little restaurant on the mainland that has the best oysters ever. He said they were the biggest and the sweetest oysters he has ever had. I am sooo jealous:)

    Hi Marlis, I really love the glass hurricanes with your table. They just are the perfect accent, with your pretty seashell dishes. I've only been to the CTS in Dallas once and really didn't find all the neat stuff that people find. Your sea shells are a great find and perfect for your tealights. As for that dessert....I want some right about now!!

    Your things are beautiful Marlis! I can't believe you got those wrapped stemmed goblets at the grocery store, they are so different and perfect with the sea tablescape. I love the rattan chargers with the beautiful shell plates, the texture contrasts are just as in nature. The tea light tucked in the large shell is a great idea! Loved it all!

    What I love most about this table is the lightness of it all. Nothing is heavy looking, just airy, breezy and beautiful. I love the green salad plates, and my husband would love that flatware! As soon as hunting season is over, he is fishing. Great job Marlis. Dianne

    Marlis, every table setting you create is full of amazing details. The fish flatware is very special as are the plates with the shell edges. Cute napkin rings and yes, perfect with the napkins. I feel as if I've had a trip to the coast. Thanks for sharing.

    Marlis, You know I have a weakness for all beachy dishes, but yours are truly special! Those white plates are beautiful and so is the flatware. The map napkins are a great addition. And I do believe that your menu (especially the dessert crepes) are making me drool! Linda

    This is such a beautiful table! Love, love, love the wrapped stemware! What a fun find at a grocery store! I have been having serious withdraws from not visiting cts. I think I am going to have to break down soon and pay them a visit. Its very dangerous have a CTS only 15 minutes from your home!

    Marlis, Just a great table for seafood and family! The chargers are wonderful with the shells. I love the glassware from Market Street for you always find great pieces there. Just a note about CTS, they are closing the Dallas store which surprised me. I bought some Johnson Bros. red and blue Old Britian Castles when everything was 20 off store wide to use for everyday. I haven't gone back for wasn't sure it was worth the trip!
