Okay, friends.. what is 2116?
It's not a bird.
It's not a plane.
It is however, my most favorite thread color ever. Yes, ever!
A rayon thread that has captured my heart for over two decades.
If I were to show you all the garments/quilts/home-dec items that I have made using this decorative thread, it would not only amaze you, but me also!
The screen capture isn't too true to color, as it is listed as vari-taupes and that is what this table is all about.
Last summer a surprise package arrived. Inside were these fabulous plates that we have used numerous times, well they are my favorite color AND they look like my next favorite----LACE!!
Thank you so much Dawna from Stitches from the Tub!
She's in the midst of moving her most fabulous quilt shop (Bolts in the Bathtub) in California to a new location, but do drop in on her blog! Or if you are in Lancaster, her fabulous Bernina and fabric store.
Many of the colors on this table perfectly blend with the Sulky thread.
Still loving our new table from last year. Even with the weatherproofing, it has taken on an aged patina.
Two quick tutorials coming up.. one the napkin ring and the other, what I did to the lace doily to make it blend with the plates. It was way, way too white!
You can find these types of doilies in lots of places, grocery stores, craft stores and yes, even the Dollar Tree.
I used a makeup sponge and some Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen color and smudged the edges of the doily. It's also a nice touch to stamp a monogram in the center!
Now to the napkin rings. I used some burlap ribbon, hemp twine, buttons and glue dots.
These silver napkin rings have really been workhorses in my arsenal. This time, I wrapped the burlap ribbon around the napkin ring. I overlapped the ends just a bit. Notice that is fits into the opening between the two outer ribs of the napkin ring. Then I tied the hemp twine through the button holes. Used a small glue dot on the back of the button and placed the button over the ribbon where it overlaps. Be sure to catch the ribbon on both sides of the overlap. And no adhesive gets stuck to the napkin ring at all!
Although the brick work continues on the patio, enough was completed to enjoy a spring evening outside.
The green Dollar Tree goblets came out to play with the Mikasa French Countryside wine goblets.
Gotta love caladiums. I can see this same table using Coleus or mums in the fall!
The small cloche filled with reindeer grass, some acorns and a birdhouse makes an interesting centerpiece.
Even the candles are in a hurricane whose color comes straight way from the spool of thread!
I laid a white quilt on the bench to soften the perch and lighten the area a bit.
I think I'll be looking for one a bit more cream colored!
Again, Thank you Dawna for the great plates. They really speak to my heart!!
And to Sulky for creating my favorite thread color!

Marlis, the plates are so lovely, and your color theme speaks to me as well. There is something very serene about using neutrals on a table. The caladiums are a perfect touch. A+ on this one! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteThose plates are way cool Marlis! Such an interested pattern. I love what you did with the napkins rings. I agree with Sarah, so serene. Very clever to use doilies and to antique them with Distress Ink. They looks great. Dianne
ReplyDeleteVery creative indeed, Marlis! Love the plates and what you did with the napkin rings. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous table, Marlis! I love the greens and creams on your outdoor table. The napkin rings are darling!

ReplyDeletethanks for the how to on the napkin rings...good idea...love your table..

You know, I'm fairly familiar with Lubbock and the Caprock. I adore those wide open, rugged spaces, so I truly appreciate and am enamored with the sanctuary that you create in your back yard time and time again. It is the perfect escape every single time. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeletePinned!!! This is beautiful, Marlis! I love the softness of it all!!! What a super idea to use the doily under the plate. And an even better idea on how to get that doily the right color!!! A makeup sponge!!! I don't wear makeup a lot anymore, so it's good to have another use for all those scads of sponges!!!
ReplyDeleteThe caladiums really fit in nicely on the table. The leaves have a kind of "lacy" pattern in them, so they are terrific for this table.
LOVE the napkin rings! They look terrific, they're not difficult or expensive to do, and you can go back to the original silver at any time. GOTTA love it!!!
I'm glad you're still enjoying the fabulous table your son built. He really did a great job on that! I still haven't seen him on my doorstep, but I guess he's just waiting for the right time to surprise me! :-)
Beautiful tablescape, Marlis!!!
Oh Marlis, I love this table! The dishes are beautiful and love how you toned down the paper doily. Your napkin rings are the perfect touch and the caladiums marching in the middle add just the right touch of color. I will have to check your favorite thread color. I'd love to see your projects that you've done with it.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about embellishing those doilies. Great idea. I love the dishes.
ReplyDeleteI can see why 2116 is your favorite.
Gorgeous table!
If I were your neighbor, you'd glance outside and see me stalking this tablescape! Its dreamy, great job!
ReplyDeleteMarlis this looks really fabulous! Your caladiums are like marching band through the center- almost like they are flags! Love those dishes- seriously wht a great pattern! Your napkin rings turned out so nice- what a great idea. I love your favorite "2116" thread! I've made muslin look old with tea bags, but I've never antiqued a fresh linen that way. Another great idea! I see a cute little cloche down in the center too! I remember your new table- your son made it right? That makes it an heirloom!!
ReplyDeleteSimply stunning Marlis, and your tutorials were an unexpected treat! What you did with the doilies is downright brilliant! And the napkin rings, what a super cool way to have your cake and eat it too, so to speak!
ReplyDeleteIt's all so pretty in that natural setting!
Jenna
Marlis, this is quite lovely. Those napkin rings are beautiful. Interesting that both of us did monochromatic tables this week.

At first, I thought you were going to talk about the upcoming presidential election in 2016...then I read the date closer. LOL
ReplyDeleteI will have to look for that thread!
The lacey plates are divine & your outdoor setting is just gorgeous! I love the curvy shape of the Mikasa French Countryside wine goblets & that antique-looking small cloche is scrumptious!
Thanks for all the wonderful ideas on this table.
fondly,
Rett
What a fun tribute to that color! I have those plates too and just fell in love with them. Great idea to tone down the doilies. It looks so inviting to be sitting in your yard. Everything is so natural and gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteI love monochromatic tables...those plates are so pretty, Marlis. They remind me of a pineapple doily I have. I am amazed at the creativity of tablescapers...great napkin rings.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week...
I love your creativity with the doilies using the ink and monogram~ what a wonderful softening effect and perfect with your lace plates! So pretty in your outdoor setting and against the wood of your table! Love the burlap and button napkin rings too!
ReplyDeleteYou set a lovely table, I really like the relaxing earth-tones, made me think of the beach with the sandy colors. Thank you for the tutorial on the napkin rings. I just saw some plain silver ones like that at Target for $1.99. May go back for them now and make those, that would be a fun project for me and my daughters. Blessings to you - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin
ReplyDeletePerfection! So much that I am loving about this setting. The rustic table, the colors, the tones, the lace - plate and paper, the napkin rings, and the caladium marching down the center of the table. So well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Marlis!
Wishing you An Extraordinary Day!
I love that something others would just ignore, was your inspiration for this table Marlis! I want to come right over and sit at your table and enjoy your lovely yard! So creative dear!

Hello dear Marlis,
ReplyDeleteBeen awhile not hearing from me. A bit busy old lady here. Stockholm is still striving with our Spring.
One day warm, another day freezing to zero.
I had a great day last w/end and had time to set for a lil gathering in the backyard.
Hope you have a wonderful pre-week-end.
Hugs form D´BoX,

Well, aren't you clever? Love the doilies and the napkin rings. Those plates are gorgeous! I think the tablecloth that The Tablescaper used this week would be a wonderful match for those plates. I love the contrast between the lacey look and the outdoor setting. laurie
ReplyDeleteThe pasley looking plates are gorgeous, along with the stemware, dear Marlis! Your entire table is lovely outdoors and the chargers with the doilies are terrific...you just inspired me to make a setting with some similar I have! No, I just found out about how to better iron the pure linen table cloths. I'll let you know! Thanks for your visit my sweet friend, you make my day! Big hugs,
ReplyDeleteFABBY

Marlis, the plates are lovely and the table is one of my favorites. I am big on using neutrals on a table. When I saw the small cloche filled with grass, acorns and the birdhouse, it gave me an idea to make little fairy gardens for centerpieces. Love everything!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous setting, I can see why you love the color. Those napkin rings are adorable. I'd eat outside everyday on that beautiful table!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
Marlis your table is stunning. I love everything about. The color scheme is perfection. And the Mikasa stemware is one of my favorite patterns. Your table is beautiful.

Marlis,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are enjoying the plates. I am going to live vicariously through your tablescape. It is so lovely and serene, totally unlike my current life.
I set my Memorial Day table two weeks ago and still have not had time to take the pictures and prepare a post.Every moment is spent preparing for the move to the new store. Which starts tomorrow!!!
Almost immediately after we move in is the Southern California Quilter's Run, BU and the annual reunion for my husband's family in Boise. Whew. Is it August yet?
Thanks again for such a lovely escape from the real world.
Hugs, Dawna
Bonjour Cherie,
ReplyDelete2116 has long been a favorite of mine, particularly in thanks to you and your inspirational stitches. Right now I must have at least 6 spools in my thread stash. I never tire of the subtle beauty, everything looks beautiful when it is used. Jealous of your plates from Dawna. Hmnn, will have to begin a new quest! Merci, ma chere!
