A Walk through my Garden

I changed out the quilts hanging in the studio. Something lighter and more spring-like.

Luckily, I label my quilts. Made this in 2001. For a Bernina publication. Was it A Touch of Artistry? How can I not be sure? Woe be me. 

I embroidered the flowers on stabilizer only and then used a heat tool to melt the stabilizer away from the embroidered piece so that all the embroidery were separate pieces. I could layer and add at will.



I used free motion stitching, straight line stitching, stitch in the ditch quilting. One of my favorite things is how the piping peaks out of the binding. 

I also couched some threads down around the center. I'm all about texture!!

Those decorative stitches on your machine are just dying to be used.. Let them out, they can create some fun pieces of art!

    Yummalicious, Marlis!! I ♥♥♥ seeing your work & soooo wish you would have been teaching at MP's "Lace Camp" when I went there.

    I've done one little quilt with the piping in the binding. That was after a class with Susan Cleveland. I have her special ruler & cording & everything. Must repeat that technique soon.

    I just attended a Floriani workshop where Debbie Homer-Hofhines showed how to do those flowers. That is also on my 'to do' list.

    I like how you've hung your quilts, too. Very versatile.

    One side of my face is smiling and happy for you. The other side is pouting and still mad that I don't know a needle from a nacho! You've made some really cool stuff, Marlis. I'm amazed at how you can do writing and everything!!!

    Marlis - you constantly amaze my with your creativity! These pieces are amazing. I need to buy a new sewing machine and I have put it off for a while. I am trying to figure out, if I enough time left to master using a complicated one. I am no Techie! You are giving me a slight bit of inspiration, though!!
