I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.

Another silken pumpkin; this time olive, previous photo rust; nestles in a silver bowl in front of an antique Mexican platter.
A collection of assorted pumpkins flank the fireplace. A little bit of Spanish moss on top of the clear pedestal elevate the magical white pumpkin to it's proper height.
A wire cloche keeps the crows away from the pumpkin on the opposite side of the fireplace.
A collection of gourds, fall vegetables and the gnarly pumpkin live on the dining room table.
Pumpkins greet visitors to our home, along with the fern that really needs to come inside, SOON!!
An antique bread board, moss covered spheres, antlers, books and miniaturepumpkins sit on a shelf in the entry.
Even the kitchen table has a pumpkin on a silver platter.
Do you decorate with pumpkins this time of year? How long do you keep yours? What do you do with them when the season has passed? Happy Monday!
ps. it really is a fruit ;-)
Thank you so much for dropping in today. I'm blessed with your visit. I'd love to visit you back and can do that if you leave a comment!
Sharing this post on Chari's Happy to Design blog for "Sunday Favorites" and also at the Tablescaper's Seasonal Sunday! See you there.
Marlis, I bought a pumpkin mid October last year...,.,it lasted until Easter, when I painted it to resemble a chick! One of my first posts when I started blogging. I threw it out late July, yes July! I was hoping to re-paint it into a fall deco but after 9 months, I did get my $2 worth! xo
ReplyDeleteMarlis -- love all your pumpkins. They make me happy. I especially love the ones by the fireplace and the one in the cage. I usually keep them until the end of November. My kids usually roll them down the hill. We used to live where there was a big hill and it was so much fun. Now we have a smaller hill and last year my son threw them from the deck. Whatever makes them happy. My husband, at times, has held a trebuchet contest at the college. One year we had around 200 pumpkins stored in our dogrun. They were such a splace of color. Some years the trebuchets throw pumpkins and others filled milk jugs. I loved having those in my backyard. Have a great weekend. Joni
ReplyDeleteI do a few things, but I don't go all out until after Thanksgiving, i.e., Christmas. You've set the mood in a wonderful way for the holidays to come. Tanks for the tour. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteThat would be thanks for the tour. My popcorn was burning. Cherry Kay

Hi Marlis...
ReplyDeleteMy friend, I'm so happy to have you join in with the Sunday Favorites party this week! What a beautiful autumn post to share! Girl, you have some mighty fine pumpkins going on over at your place! Ohhh...the silken pumpkins just made my little heart go pitter-patter...love, love, LOVE those!!! Wherever did you find them? The rust silken pumpkin atop the little stool makes for the prettiest vignette! I really like that! And...of course, I love silver so the olive silken pumpkin in the silver bowl is right up my "design alley"! Both vignettes are gorgeous! Well dear lady, I sooo enjoyed all of your beautiful pumpkin vignettes...they're fabulous! Thank you again, for sharing them with us for the Sunday Favorites party!
Warmest autumn wishes,
Chari
Lovin' all of your pumpkins Marlis! Especially fond of the one on the table on a silver platter. I usually only buy one "real" one, I'll use it as a decoration, then carve it for Halloween (sometimes roasting the seeds), then it's compost:@)
ReplyDeleteWell, so far I'm about half your comments. Just saw your comment on the Round Top post. Maybe we should go together next year! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteLovely pumpkin displays! I'm just getting my pumpkins and fall decor displayed and hope to share new pictures soon!

Love your pumpkin book stack! I just ran across that quote this week~ I love that you illustrated it with a velvet cushion :)
ReplyDeleteMarlis, I love all your natural elements for Fall decorating...so pretty! That fern is gorgeous, too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Marlis! Love the stack of books with pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteLove the pumpkin decorations! Your house looks so inviting and warm. I've had pumpkins last through the new year depending on the weather. I love having gords on the table for Thanksgiving. Those last years!
ReplyDeleteMarlis, I love all of your cute pumpkins. That quote from Thoreau is perfect, too. Pumpkins are my favorite choise of fall decorating, these are all used to perfect effect.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a lovely Sunday...
XO,
Sheila
Marlis, you are not going to believe this...or maybe you will, considering it's me we're talking about....but I just now figured out how to check the Blogger Dashboard thingie. I had NO idea! I thought that since I was on WordPress....well, I'll spare you the horrifying details. Bottom line is that I'm dumb/slow and now know that I can just check on there for the latest posts. I will be the newest cast member of what will now be called "Dumb & Dumber & Even Dumber Than That!"!!! ;-) Your pumpkins are gorgeous, and I especially love the warty one. I'm partial to imperfections.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Enjoyed seeing all your pumpkins for sure. I love having pumpkins inside and out...and they usually last way past the Autumn season... eventually they end up in my husbands compost bin. ":o)
ReplyDeleteI love pumpkins too and have several different kinds, sweater pumpkins, pumpkins made from books, glittered pumpkins etc. Yours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love fall and pumpkins! Love all your creative displays -- especially the pumpkin in the bird cage with the crows perched on top!
ReplyDeleteMarlis, everything looks so pretty in your two most recent posts. I love that pumpkin under the wire cloche with the black birds on top. Your vignette of pumpkins on the other side of the hearth is so pretty. You've inspired me. laurie
ReplyDeleteMarlis, I love that satiny pumpkin in the first photo! And the moss covered balls in the wooden dough bowl are precious. All of my pumpkins have been out a few weeks. I especially love the white ones and the gray blues.

ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. Glad that you became a part of Seasonal Sundays.

I am happy to see that someone else loves decorating with pumpkins as much as me! I'll admit, I have a few decorative pumpkins I leave out all year long. There is just something wonderfully happy and comforting about them. And of course, with a real pumpkin, the recipes to use are amazing!
