Garden Party Tablescape

I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends

A chance to share old memories and play our songs again
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name
No one recognized me, I didn't look the same

But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
Ricky Nelson - 1972
How about a garden party in the middle of summer?
An empty place card just for you.

Some pretty flowers to adorn the table

Some busy bees on honeycomb napkin rings

 White Orchid silver by Oneida

Butter pats under the iced tea spoon will save your precious linens every time

A vintage look candle holder helps set the mood

Another candle under an etched cloche sitting in a sterling dish
(cloche to be removed before lighting)

Really love my Mikasa French Countryside goblets

Oh I really cheated on the table covering..
I couldn't find a suitable tablecloth. So I purged the resource center (aka the stash).
I found this lovely piece of Moda fabric that is just perfect as a table covering for outside
since this table is less wide than our dining table. A few serged ends and a quick turn under
and I will have a lovely tablecloth for years to come!

Love Love Love this little plate used as a salad plate.  Pattern is Marilyn by Queen Anne. I won this at
the fun auction over at My Place to Yours. I think I'll be collecting this pattern for quite some time. I think it's the blue band with the snowdrops that sucks me in.. oh and my sister's name is Marilyn.

See the pretty orchids on the flatware? I succumbed to a really great deal on this last week.
My father in law had the an orchid green house and supplied many people all around the nation. He's passed on, so I guess sentimentality got the better of me.

Cast:
Table covering - Moda fabrics
Napkins - too old to remember where from (the napkins, the napkins!)
Napkin rings - OKL (One King's Lane)
Dinner plates - Bordallo Pinheiro
Salad plates - various Sammeltassen* from Germany and one Queen Anne's Marilyn pattern
Butter pats - German; Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauss
Flatware - Oneida White Orchid Community Plate
Glassware - Mikasa French Countryside
Grapevine vase - TJMaxx
Candles and holders - antiques or very old
Placecards - Tuesday Morning

Thank you so much for dropping in and spending some time with me. I am blessed by your company. Hope you enjoyed yourself!

*Sammeltassen translates to "Collector's cups". But they usually encompass a dessert plate, cup and saucer. Usually they were given to young ladies for special occasions (confirmation, birthdays, Christmas). Some of the plates used were my grandmother's and some my  mother's. I'm so blessed to be the steward of these pieces.

  2. Hallo Marlis,

  5. Hi Ricky.. I mean Marlis. :) I remember that Ricky Nelson song, too. Love, Love your brick patio with the wall enclosure and the Oak ? tree.
Your tablescape is so gorgeous and I love your mix of patterns. When I saw your candle and cloche on the sterling bowl, I knew I had one almost identical to it and I'm going to see if my cloche will fit. Oh. I hope so, because yours is so pretty.
The Mikasa French Countryside glassware is so pretty and every time I see it I just love it. Don't know why I don't buy some. Duh. Anyway, your garden party is perfection. Thanks for inviting us.
    Hugs,
    Babs

  8. I was singing right along with you, Marlis! Such a beautiful table...LOVE the little name card holders & that vintage candle holder is awesome.
I think your "stash" tablecloth is perfect. I recently used some fabric as a backdrop for a peach pie photo & then promptly decided it would make a pretty nightgown for Ms. C. It is half finished. (the pie is all gone...LOL)

    Hugs,

  11. I'm due a trip to Lubbock town, and I hope that I get to sit at your garden table when I come. I read in Rett's comments that you lost your Blue Willow in a house fire. We lost a lake home to a fire. I still find myself opening closets or drawers to look for things, only to realize that they were gone forever. That said, I have an order blank to buy Churchill "Blue Willow", and if you want to email me your address, I'll send it to you. I don't know if that's a maker that you would want, or not. They currently have the Churchill, "Pink Willow" at Tuesday Morning, if you wanted to check out the way that it's made and designed. I love the new tablecloth; I do that kind of thing all the time...even for the dining table. I just use another undercloth with it to give it the desired length. Thanks for sharing another gorgeous design. Cherry Kay

This is a beautiful table. Your tablecloth fabric is lovely, and your outdoor area is so nice! I love your various salad plates, and your recent win is so pretty. Snowdrops are such sweet little flowers. Your flower arrangement is gorgeous, and using the butter pat for a spoon rest is a great idea.

This is a very inviting table for summer. I mentioned you in my tablescape post this week, so you'll have to stop by and see :) Have a great weekend.

  31. Marlis, what can I say, that the other girls haven't said already? It's truly beautiful. I simply adore the napkin rings!

Who said you can't use a piece of cloth as a tablecloth? After all is that not what a tablecloth is?

I have been so jealous of all you girls in the states moaning about the heat. It has rained for ages here in NZ. I am over it! I am looking forward to our summer, but it is a way off yet.

Anyhoo, a lovely setting and a joy to behold, thank you!
