Viva Cinco de Mayo Tablescape

Bienvienidos! Welcome.  

Today we are celebrating a bit of Mexican history. Cinco de Mayo. The day the Mexican army overtook the French army in the Battle of Puebla, a town in central Mexico on May 5th, 1862.  

The centerpiece I put together today was inspired by a post that Delores Arabian posted recently on her blog - 

Providence was mine this week, Wally World had a huge selection of succulents available in all sizes! And I was there at the right time...

Providence once again shown down on me. Back in the dark ages when we were first married, this serape was in our possession. Then it disappeared. Yep, to be long forgotten. This week, my SIL brought it back. It was meant to be! The Fiesta dishes are still awol though; (Serape; 1940's Piedras Negras, Mexico.


Silver chargers, Talavera pottery dishes, concho flatware, succulents and Guatemalan napkins are the mainstays of this table.  So without much further ado and little or no dialogue, ándale!

 



The appetizer compote contains a small succulent for our guests to take home as a remembrance. Each one is wrapped in a bit of burlap, secured with the threads from the frayed burlap.










OOOps, looks like a stray burlap fiber has found it's way onto the fork.. another blooper picture for next year!






The carafe from Cielo, Santa Fe. Brought home last trip. Matches the goblets and the compotes.

    Ole'!! Spectacular presentation with some wonderful & authentic pieces, Marlis! Bravo!

    The gal's whose home we stayed in down in FL this past winter had some Talavera pottery dishes. I did a simple tablescape with them & took photos but haven't posted it yet. Thanks for the reminder.
    Also, I forgot to get out my peppers, like yours. Thanks again for THAT reminder, too.

    Oh my, Marlis...this is a perfect Mexican arrangement on your table!, it's also, so very ARTISTIC! all the elements you've chosen are just so RIGHT! I love those dishes, (I'm into that kind, you know) The glasses with the little tint of color are so pretty and so Mexican too, like the chargers...are they pewter?     This is such a festive one! I love the bold colors and the serape (sp?) table covering. I'm glad it came home again. Without a doubt, though, my favorite part is the little succulents in the compote dishes with the red pepper. That looks just fabulous.

    I love the colors of this table, what fun festives mixes of colors they enjoy south of the border. The succulents are just delightful. I will have to go visit Delores and see her post! I love your closeup shots of the succulents.

    Marlis, I am sure you are the one that suggested the Wallace flatware for my cabin - I went right out and got it and just love it. It is so fun. It fits so well with your fun plates. Now, where did that fiesta ware get to?!!

    The serape really set the tone for your festive Mexican table, Marlis. I have a runner that is in the serape style. I use it when I host a New Mexican meal. Love the concho style silverware and the dinnerware. I really like how you used the mercury glass candlesticks to formalize the table. :-)

    Que bonita, Marlis! Todas las cosas son muy bonitas!! I am so glad you go the serape back. It makes a fabulous backdrop for everything else! LOVE those dishes! The Yucatan shrimp cocktail looks divine...I am going to try to make it when we get settled. I scraped together a lowly little chicken fajita with a side of black beans & rice last night which I ate standing up in the kitchen since the table is loaded with packing materials! Of course, I HAD to have a margarita to go with it. Wish I could have eaten at your pretty table! Hey...have a very happy Mother's Day weekend! I'll talk to you soon!
