It's almost there.. Halloween that is. Isn't this banner a work of art? My friend Stacy gets all the credit on this one.. Her idea, her work = my delight!

Halloween week.. part six

Today, a gnarly QuicKutz tree. This was a heap of work, but it sure was fun. Die cut the image twice; once for the back and once for the front of the "ornament". Be sure to reverse the image! Otherwise you'll end up with two fronts.
This is a great way to use up all those scraps with which we can't part. Sandwich a loop of thread between the front and back creating a hanger for the "ornament".
Carefully die cutting patterned paper can add some unique aspects to the ornaments.
I just love this skeleton, but count those pieces! and each piece is joined to the next with a bit of string between them so that the skeleton really moves!

Halloween week.. part five

Tie a ribbon on some Halloween bells. Take out an antique dish. Place beribboned bells in dish. Instant charm.
Purchased ceramic mini Halloween plates. Affix a plate hanger to the back. Let dry! Fashion a paper clip into a hook shape. Hang plates over the curtain rod.

Halloween week.. part four

A Halloween shadowbox: a purchased shadow box from Hobby Lobby. Spray paint it black. Remember to slide the glass out first. "Wallpaper" the inside. Tie a ribbon around the glass and stamp a spider web on the glass with Stazon ink. Create a vignette using your QK dies. Stacking foam dots will create different depths to which to adhere your elements.
Once the glass is back in place, attach a metal embellishment and a spider to the front!

Mini ornaments and a cool pumpkin tree!
Isn't this pumpkin face adorable?
Add some mini tree ornaments and a strand of mini lights and you have the perfect piece for just about anywhere.

Halloween week.. part two

A haunted house to bolster the imagination. This little project started out as a birdhouse from a craft store spray painted black. A good whack of the hammer pushes the bird roosts into the house. Careful though, it could crack the foundation. Measure and cut your paper, use Mod Podge to adhere.
The roof is a series of different strips of paper cut out with a Martha Stewart edge punch, all drippy and gooey. Each strip is adhered with Terrifically Tacky tape and has a thick wedge of chipboard in between the strips to add dimension.
The fence is a QK border die and a wood grained paper.
The resident spider complete with googly eyes drops from the upper story eaves.
Love the sparkly tree from Michaels. I added the Basic Grey "eerie" epoxy ghosts to the branches.
For a bit of ghoulish fun, I added a very old skeleton (earring) resting on the fence still holding his treat bucket.. and a tombstone cut from Basic Grey packaging stamped with the JustRite mini font.

This looks like QK Eliza font, QK old witch's hat, jack o lantern, cat, spider and broom. Hand cut the fence...

I love this card. I took the idea from Polly McFadden at the Stamp Act, El Paso. These are some of my favorite stamps! The sentiment is printed and cut to fit.

More Quickutz dies.. this time I combined the ghost with the new witch's hat, bat, spider, broom and cauldron. Also embossed the hat with a swirls embossing die.

Why are there no pecans? and QK Nov club teaser

Could this be the reason I have no pecans this year? How can one cute little thing clean out 4 huge trees? I don't think so, maybe it was the frost. No other pecan tree in the neighborhood is fruit laden this year either. mmmm.

Cold weather & chicken chili Stew

My favorite cold weather food: Chicken Chili Stew-p

6 chicken breasts, no skins, no bones, cut into bite size pieces
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium green pepper, diced
2 cans stewed tomatoes, chopped
1 can pinto beans, 15 oz.
2/3 cup Pace Picante sauce - medium
1 teaspoon chili powder (to taste)
2 teaspoons cumin (to taste)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-2 small cans tomato sauce

Toppings:
cheddar/jack cheese, grated
chopped green onions
sour cream
chopped avocados

Brown chicken pieces in oil and add onion and garlic. Saute until glazed. Add the rest of the ingredients except toppings. Depending on your likes, I usually add 1-2 small cans of tomato sauce for a soupier mixture. Cook for about 1 hour to give flavors time to mingle, then serve garnished with toppings.

This recipe came by way of Vickey Hoffman who said it originally was in a Southern Living.

Welcome to the October edition of Quickutz Club. This month you'll have the option of making either of the two layouts. Because of time constraints, the complexity of the project and because we all want a bit of lunch - unfortunatelyI'll have to limit you to making one project in class.

The second layout - Fall Festival inspired: fall leaf brads brown/beige check ribbon, orange/brown mini plaid ribbon, QK Oval cookie cutter dies, QK 4x4 scarecrow die, scallop border punch, JustRite Autumn Blessings oval stamp set with appropriate stamper, one brown leaf embossed paper for front, one pumpkin row paper for back, one coordinating paper with strips of coordinating paper, 1 sheet green coordinating dot paper, one piece of yellow-ish paper for scarecrow, chestnut roan cat's eye ink pad for edgings, colored pencils to color in the stamped image.

Isn't he just scrumptious.. I think I will need this tassel... it's so fitting to my decor. I know, I could probably make it myself, but by the time I found all the stuff, I'd be too tired to enjoy it..

October QK club teaser..

I've actually finished both project for October's QuicKutz club! So I can make you squirm with a few teaser shots. During club, you can make one of your choice - either fall or halloween. IF you finish the first one or get far enough along, you are welcome to start the second page sould you desire. I just don't think you can finish two pieces during our time together.
The page has two sides and a full sheet of paper was used for each side. So sharing background paper probably won't work. The fall page used the Little Yellow Bicycle Pumpkin Patch on one side and the Imaginations signature collection brown leather looking embossed with fall leaves on the other. I augmented with a strip from the Little Yellow Bicycle Autumn Binge strip and a dk green dot. You will want to bring some coordinating ribbon and I added the metal leaf brads that are at DML! I also used the Autumn Blessings oval stamps and stamper from JustRite!
The Halloween layout turned out so 'happy'! Backgrounds are Imaginations Signature Collection Spiderwebs and the orange flocked polka dot for the other. Augment with green gooey drops and your pages will be complete.
I added the orange trick or treat ribbon from DML, a boo ribbon from the "resource center" (aka stash) and some of the cute halloween brads in stock at DML. Also used the Treats stamp Set (Halloween) from JustRite Stampers. Just fyi - this is a limited edition set and is already sold out with JustRite - so get yours while it's available!
